Jordan Glen Preschool Concepts

Packed with joy, full of fun, the pre-kindergarten day should involve space for active and quiet times, academic and artistic activities, solo and social play. Jordan Glen pre-K is careful to include all of this, with some parts of the day child-directed, others teacher selected. Our pre-K students have time in both the part-time and full-time schedules to play outside and inside. Our curriculum involves elements of art, music, drama, reading, math, foreign and sign language and outside play. Each week will include "classes," such as gardening, Spanish, science, art, music, sports and world and community studies.

The preschool day is either part-day (9-12:30) or full-day (9-3). Children can come as early as 8:30, free of charge.

Pre-K Subjects

Star Stations - Each day sees varying activities at the art tables, messy table, outside and inside. Children are never forced to take part in these activities, but they are encouraged to experiment and try out new concepts and skills every day.

Morning Meeting – We begin every day by gathering the children together and having a quiet moment, sharing, and show and tell.

Units – Each week we focus on different subjects, such as the senses, pets, food, transportation, dinosaurs, weather, and more.

Free Play – Supervised play on the playground equipment outside and inside. In addition to our organized activities, our room is set up for maximum fun and learning, with the kitchen center, sorting/puzzle corner, the reading nook, the art tables, the music corner, dramatic prop boxes, block area and science corner.

Cleanup – Children will be encouraged to wash hands and faces frequently!

Alphabet Time – Each week the children will learn about a different letter of the week, talking about animals, songs, words and pictures that begin with the letter of the week. We will wrap up the week by choosing foods that begin with our weekly letter and cooking our Friday snack.
Mon. – Word Games, Tues. – Songs, Wed. – Animals, Thurs. – Art, Fri. – Cooking/Food

Snack/Lunch – Jordan Glen will provide a simple, nutritious snack every morning for the children. Lunches and afternoon snacks will be provided by the parents.

Art – Throughout the week, kids will enjoy messy art, crafty art, and group art. We work on tactile concepts, projects to be proud of, and working together to create art for the classroom.

Music Time – Music classes will include songs about our unit of study, vocal and instrumental instruction and lots of movement and dance.

Class Time – Classes will include many different subjects, including Spanish, Drama, Gardening, World Studies, Manners, Math, Language Skills, Science, Sports, Music, Sign Language, and more.

Rest Time – Parents will have the choice of having their little ones encouraged to sleep or just to have a quiet time looking at books, coloring, and listening to music.

Pre-K Policy

• The staff to student ratio in the Jordan Glen pre-K classroom is 1:7.

• The non-refundable enrollment fee is due upon acceptance to the pre-K and is completely applicable to the yearly tuition fees.

• Tuition is due on the 1st of every month. Late fees are $20 and are due after the 10th of the month.

• The daily schedule is from 9:00 – 3:00. Early arrival (free of charge) is as early as 8:30, with supervised play for our early birds. Pickup is at 12:30 or 3:00. Aftercare after 3:15 is considered on a case-by-case basis. Please call the office to discuss the aftercare options.

• We ask that you please keep your sick children home from school. We will make our best efforts to keep hands washed and noses wiped, but the best prevention is to limit exposure.

• If you would like us to encourage your child to sleep during rest time, then we will do so. If your child does not usually nap, then quiet, fun activities will be provided for them during rest time.

• You and your children are very important to us. We are available to discuss any questions or concerns you might have about your child or about the Pre-K class. If you need more than a quick answer, however, please be sure to call and schedule a parent-teacher conference, since during school hours our attention must be focused on the children.

The Pre-K Goal

For your children to get the maximum benefit from kindergarten, grade school, and higher education, the goal of pre-K must be to promote the love of school and learning. Although your children will be learning how to write their names, match numbers to objects, and increase their vocabulary, they will also be learning how to get along with other children, follow simple classroom directions, and explore all types of learning environments. Our goal is to help your children begin to love learning and to assist you in providing the love and nurturing that our little ones need as they start their school experience.
